Phi Phi Islands: The Place To Be

Nature has a way of making a person feels so calm and relax and we at Book Phi Phi are offering various Phi Phi Island tour packages.  This is how one feels when one would have the chance to personally visit and experience a place considered a paradise that is almost perfect.  Phi Phi Islands exemplify this description of a place on earth.

Phi Phi Islands, considered one of the loveliest places in Southeast Asia, is located in Thailand between the large island of Phuket and the west Strait of Malacca coast  of the Mainland.  The islands are administratively part of Krabi Province.

Originally, these group of islands were called Pulau Api-Api or the fiery isle since the place has abundant fiery tree or grey mangrove.  Presently, it is called Phi Phi, a name that originated from Malay.

Phi Phi Islands consists of six islands.  Of these, two islands, Phi Phi don and Phi PhiLeh are the largest and most well-known.  These islands came to worldwide prominence when Ko Phi PhiLeh was used as a location for the shooting of the British-American film  The Beach in 2000. While there were rumors that the film company damaged the island’s environment, it has, however, resulted to the increase of tourists, and thus, improving its tourist industry.  In 2004, Ko Phi Phi was hit by an Indian Ocean Tsunami destroying nearly all of the island’s infrastructure.

To reach the islands, one may opt to use a 45-minute speed boat trip or a 90-minute ferry ride from either Phuket or Krabi.  When already in the island, one can use the bicycle, which is the most popular form of transportation.

As part of the South East Asian region, Phi Phi Islands has a tropical  climate which is one of the reasons why the place is a summer destination of people around the world.  In addition, these group of islands boast of breathtaking natural sceneries and considered as protected marine reserves.  Its tropical beaches with its clear water surely satisfy beach-going individuals. It has stunning rock formations that attract those individuals who just want to stroll after a long day swim.  Just watching its rich and varied marine life is truly an awesome experience.  In Ko Phi Phi island, visitors can have a taste of various marine recreational activities such as scuba diving, kayaking or snorkeling.

Phi Phi Islands as one can see, are naturally endowed.  It is indeed a paradise which has to be protected.

With numerous tourists visiting the island yearly, it was reported that Ko Phi Phi coral reefs and marine fauna have suffered major damages as a result despite its being protected by its national park status.

While it is the responsibility of the Thai government to stop the damage being done to Phi Phi Islands, to me it is also the responsibility of all tourists to protect and preserve this marine reserves.
